I visited Movie Park Germany with my partner and our baby in May 2026. Movie Park provided complimentary entry and parking for this visit as part of a press collaboration. All opinions are entirely my own.
That said โ I want to give you the real picture, including the things that weren't perfect. That's how this blog works.

My Personal Verdict: Recommended for families
"Movie Park Germany is a solid family theme park โ best suited to families with children aged 3โ12, and surprisingly manageable with a baby if you come prepared. Star Trek: Operation Enterprise is the showstopper โ do it first."
Insider Tip:Arrive early if driving โ we got there at 11am and parked 600m from the entrance (the last available spot). Download the free app before you go for live queue times and the park map.
Movie Park Germany โ Quick Verdict
| Category | Score (/5) |
|---|---|
| Rides | 3.5 / 5 |
| Family-Friendliness | 4.5 / 5 |
| Food | 3.0 / 5 |
| Value for Money | 3.5 / 5 |
| Overall | 4.0 / 5 |
Movie Park Germany isn't trying to be Europa Park. It's a mid-tier regional theme park with decent coasters, excellent kids' areas, good theming in parts, and a very relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.
If you're coming from Cologne or Dรผsseldorf with children aged 3โ12, it's a great full-day out. If you're comparing it to Europa Park or Phantasialand for a big theme park holiday โ those two win on ride quality.

For families with babies and toddlers: this is actually one of the better choices among German theme parks. Wide paths, manageable crowd levels, and dedicated baby facilities that actually work.
Getting to Movie Park Germany
Movie Park Germany is located in Bottrop-Kirchhellen in the Ruhr area, between Cologne and Dortmund.
From Cologne (45 min drive)
The fastest and most practical option โ drive via the A2 motorway heading north, about 70km. Parking costs ~โฌ8 per day.
Important parking note: arrive as early as possible. We arrived around 11am and found ourselves parking approximately 600 metres away from the park entrance โ the last available spot in that section. If you arrive later you may be pushed even further. Aim for 9:30โ10am if you want to park close.
From Frankfurt (2.5โ3 hr drive)
Drive via A3 โ A2 northward, approximately 270km. It's a genuine half-day drive, so I'd recommend combining it with a Cologne overnight โ drive Frankfurt โ Cologne (1.5 hrs), spend the night, then Movie Park the next day.

From Dรผsseldorf (30 min drive)
The easiest access point โ about 35km via A42. If you're based in Dรผsseldorf, this is genuinely a quick afternoon/full-day trip.
By Public Transport
It's possible but fiddly. From Cologne: take a train to Oberhausen Hauptbahnhof, then bus line 257 toward Bottrop-Kirchhellen. The journey takes about 1.5โ2 hours and requires some planning. If you're travelling with a pram, the car is significantly easier.
Tickets and Prices (2026)
| Ticket | Online Price | Gate Price |
|---|---|---|
| Adult (16+) | ~โฌ47 | ~โฌ53 |
| Child (3โ15) | ~โฌ41 | ~โฌ46 |
| Under 3 | Free | Free |
| Schnell (fast track) | Available separately | โ |
| Parking | โฌ8 | โฌ8 |
Money-saving tips:
- Always buy online โ saves โฌ6โ8 per ticket, and you skip the gate queue
- Check the moviepark.de website for seasonal deals and combo packages
- Mid-week visits are significantly cheaper in some promotional periods
- Check if GetYourGuide has current Movie Park listings: search here
- Peak days (school holidays, weekends in summer) have longer queues โ come on a weekday in May or June if possible
Park Overview โ What to Expect

Park Zones and Theming
Movie Park Germany is themed around Hollywood blockbusters โ zones are loosely based on film/TV genres: action, horror (Nickland for kids), Western, and a Nickelodeon section for younger children.
The theming is better in some zones than others. The Nickelodeon Land section is genuinely well-designed and immersive for young children. The main entrance area has good Hollywood boulevard styling. Some back sections feel a bit generic, but it doesn't detract from the overall experience.
Park Map and Navigation Tips
The park is medium-sized โ you can cover everything in one full day without feeling rushed.
App vs paper map: Download the Movie Park app before you arrive โ it's free and shows live attraction wait times, which is genuinely useful for planning your route on the day. If you prefer a physical map, you can pick one up at Guest Services near the entrance โ but note it costs ~โฌ0.50. Guest Services is also where you collect your baby switch cards, so you're going there anyway if you're travelling with a young child.
Key landmarks to orient yourself:
- Star Trek: Operation Enterprise โ visible the moment you walk through the entrance gates; this is the showstopper ride
- Nick Land โ immediately to the left after entry, the dedicated children's zone
- Western zone โ central area, good family rides
- Guest Services โ near the entrance; paper maps, baby switch cards, general help
- The Horrorshow โ evenings only (not suitable for young children)
Rides โ What to Prioritise
Must-Do Rides
- Star Trek: Operation Enterprise โ The park's showstopper, and the first thing you'll see when you walk through the gates. It's a launched roller coaster with excellent theming inside the queue building โ the ride itself is a genuine thrill without being too extreme. This is the one ride you absolutely cannot leave without doing. Height minimum: 120cm.
- Area 51 โ We did this one and it delivered. Good theming and a solid dark ride experience.
- MP Xpress โ Classic steel looping coaster, good for first-time coaster riders. Height: 140cm.
- Crazy Surfer โ Wave swinger with good height over the park. Family-friendly from about 5+.
- The High Fall โ Drop tower. Does exactly what you expect. Height: 120cm.
Queue times to know: Star Trek, the movie studio ride, and Van Helsing consistently had around 35-minute waits during our visit. If you're not willing to queue that long, the Schnell ticket (fast track, purchased separately) is worth it for these specific rides โ more on that below.

Good If You Have Time
- Banks of the Amazon โ Log flume ride, expect to get wet. Best on a hot day. Height: 100cm.
- Bermuda Triangle โ Boat dark ride with mild effects. Good for younger children and anyone who wants a break from queues.
- Vasquez Rocks โ Family mine-train coaster. Ideal for 6โ10 year olds doing their first real coaster.
Skip If Short on Time
- Mystery River โ Second flume ride. Fine but redundant if you've done Amazon.
- Several spinning rides in the back section โ Queue-to-payoff ratio isn't great.
Rides for Small Children / Toddlers
The Nick Land section is dedicated entirely to young children and is the best part of the park for families with 2โ6 year olds:
- SpongeBob Splash Bash โ Water ride, minimal height requirement, very popular
- Pat & Stan Flyer โ Gentle flying ride for the very youngest
- Multiple carousel and junior versions of bigger rides throughout Nick Land

Shows โ Don't Skip These
There are several shows running throughout the day, and they're worth building your schedule around. Pick up the daily show schedule at the entrance (or check the app).
Stunt Show โ Do Not Miss This
The stunt show is the highlight of the park's entertainment and I'd call it a genuine must-watch โ even if you're primarily there for rides. The stunts are impressive, the production is well done, and it's worth sitting through.
One important note: the stunt show storyline is entirely in German. If you don't speak German you'll still follow the action (it's physical storytelling), but you'll miss the dialogue. This didn't diminish the experience for us โ the action speaks for itself.
Nickelodeon Show
If you're travelling with young children, the Nickelodeon show is a good one to catch. Characters the kids will recognise, family-friendly pace, and shorter duration.
4D Shows โ English Available
There are a couple of 4D shows in the park. These did have English-language screenings, typically scheduled around 15 minutes after the German version. If you want English, check the time and aim for the later slot.
Language note overall: The majority of shows and live entertainment are in German. The rides themselves have no language barrier.
This is the section I was most interested in before we arrived, and I was genuinely impressed.
Stroller Accessibility
Movie Park is excellent for pushchairs and prams. The main paths are wide and paved throughout. Stroller parking areas are clearly marked outside each ride. I didn't encounter a single flight of stairs on the main walking routes.
The Nick Land section is designed with family flow in mind โ wide, flat, logical layout. My pram navigated everything without difficulty.
Baby Switch โ How It Actually Works
This is one of the best things about Movie Park Germany for families with a young child, and I want to explain it properly because it's not obvious.
Here's the process: go to Guest Services (near the entrance) and collect your baby switch card. It's completely free โ no charge whatsoever.
When you arrive at a ride, one partner joins the regular queue, does the ride, and then at the exit shows the baby switch card. The other partner โ who has been waiting with the baby โ then gets immediate access to the ride without rejoining the main queue. So both of you get to do the ride, taking turns with the baby, and neither of you loses time queuing twice.
We used this across several rides and it worked smoothly every time. The staff were clear about the process. If you're travelling with a baby, get your baby switch card from Guest Services the moment you arrive โ it's the first thing you should do.
Feeding and Baby Facilities
- A dedicated nursing/feeding room is available near the main entrance area (ask at guest services for the current location)
- Microwaves for warming baby food available at the main restaurant areas โ ask staff
- Changing facilities were clean and present in most main toilet blocks, including family-specific facilities
Height Restrictions to Know
Most toddler attractions in Nick Land have no minimum height or a very low bar (85โ90cm). The main thrill rides require 120โ140cm. Worth checking the full list on moviepark.de before arriving with specific ages.
Food at Movie Park Germany
This is where I expected the worst โ theme park food โ but Movie Park actually holds up reasonably well, especially compared to other parks I've visited.
Familiar chains inside the park: There's a Subway and a Dunkin' Donuts inside Movie Park Germany, which changes the equation. If you're in the mood for something familiar and predictably priced, these are solid options. It's a noticeable step up from generic park burger stands.
If you've been to Disneyland Paris and winced at every food purchase โ Movie Park's food pricing is significantly more reasonable. Read our Disneyland Paris guide for comparison.
Vegetarian Options (Honest Guide)
Vegetarian options at most park restaurants are limited to fries, margherita pizza, and generic pasta. Subway helps here โ the menu is familiar and you know what you're getting. Still not great for vegetarians overall, but better than the average German theme park.
Prices and Budget Tips
- Burger + fries: ~โฌ12โ15
- Kids meal: ~โฌ8โ10
- Coffee: ~โฌ3.50โ4.50
- Ice cream: ~โฌ4โ6
- Subway / Dunkin' Donuts: standard chain pricing
Refillable souvenir cup: You can buy a cup and refill your soft drink as many times as you like throughout the day. If you or your family drink a lot of fizzy drinks, this pays for itself easily. Worth buying early in the day.
After water rides โ the drying station: There are spots in the park where you can dry yourself after water rides for around โฌ3. We skipped the water rides entirely because we hadn't brought raincoats and didn't want to spend the rest of the day wet โ but this is there if you need it.
Can You Bring Your Own Food?
Yes โ Movie Park Germany allows picnics outside the ride areas. There are designated picnic tables near the entrance. Many families bring a cooler bag and eat lunch at the tables before re-entering. This is completely accepted and I'd recommend it for families on a tighter budget.
Movie Park Germany vs Alternatives
| Park | Drive from Frankfurt | Best For | Online Adult Ticket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Movie Park Germany | ~2.5 hrs | Families, young children | ~โฌ47 |
| Europa Park | ~3 hrs (Rust) | All ages, best rides in Germany | ~โฌ60 |
| Phantasialand | ~2.5 hrs (Brรผhl) | Adults, unique dark rides | ~โฌ55 |
| Legoland Germany | ~2.5 hrs (Gรผnzburg) | Children aged 3โ10 | ~โฌ52 |
| Holiday Park | ~1.5 hrs (Hassloch) | Families, large coasters | ~โฌ38 |
My take: Europa Park is the best theme park in Germany for all-round quality and ride count โ worth the longer journey for a big theme park holiday. Movie Park wins on accessibility from Cologne/Dรผsseldorf, better baby and toddler facilities, and a more relaxed crowd atmosphere than Europa Park in peak season.
Is Movie Park Germany Worth It?
Worth It If...
- You're travelling with children aged 3โ12 as the primary riders
- You're based in Cologne, Dรผsseldorf, or anywhere in the Ruhr area
- You want a full day out without the intense crowds of Europa Park on a summer weekend
- You have a baby or toddler โ the facilities and accessibility here are better than expected
- You're visiting on a weekday in May or June (queue times are short, atmosphere is relaxed)
Skip or Wait If...
- You're serious about thrill rides โ Europa Park or Phantasialand offer more
- You're looking for a big-occasion theme park holiday โ invest in Europa Park instead
- You're visiting in August on a weekend โ peak crowds make the experience worse
- You'd need to drive more than 3 hours one way and aren't combining it with Cologne
Practical Tips Before You Go
- Buy tickets online โ saves โฌ6โ8 per person vs gate price โ moviepark.de
- Arrive early if driving โ we arrived at 11am and parked ~600m from the entrance (last available spot). Aim for 9:30โ10am for a close spot.
- Download the Movie Park app before you go โ it's free and gives you live queue times + attraction map. Far more useful than the paper map.
- Paper map costs ~โฌ0.50 at Guest Services โ same desk where you pick up baby switch cards. App map is free.
- Baby switch: Collect your free baby switch card from Guest Services first thing. One partner queues and rides, the other waits with the baby, then swaps for immediate access. No extra cost.
- Schnell ticket (fast track) โ available separately for the big rides that consistently run 35-minute queues (Star Trek, Van Helsing, movie studio ride). Worth it if you want to hit those without the wait.
- Check wait times on the app throughout the day โ some rides drop significantly during show times and mealtimes
- Bring a raincoat or buy one at the park if you want to do water rides. Some rides will soak you completely. If you forget, there's a drying station for ~โฌ3 after water rides.
- Refillable souvenir cup โ buy one early and refill soft drinks all day
- Don't miss the stunt show โ check the daily schedule for times. It's a must-watch. The storyline is in German but the action is universal.
- 4D shows have English screenings โ check the time on the app, usually ~15 minutes after the German version
- Bring sunscreen โ limited shade in main ride areas
- Lockers available near the entrance for a small deposit
- Prams park outside most rides โ take valuables with you
