Route

Scenic back-road routing

Uses OSRM's motorway exclusion to push the route onto B-roads, mountain passes, and coastal routes โ€” the roads motorcyclists actually want.

Fast motorway routing

Standard motorway routing for covering ground quickly. Useful for transit legs before the scenic riding begins.

Fuel stop calculator

Enter your tank range and the motorbike journey planner calculates how many fuel stops you need and roughly how far apart they'll be.

Trip day planner

Suggested riding days based on 300 km/day scenic or 500 km/day fast โ€” conservative defaults that work for most motorcycle road trips.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this motorcycle route finder work?

Enter your start and end cities, choose scenic or fast mode, then click Plan Ride. The tool geocodes both locations, fetches a real road route via OSRM/OpenStreetMap, and calculates riding time, fuel stops based on your tank range, and suggested trip days.

How does scenic mode work?

Scenic mode uses OSRM routing with motorways excluded โ€” pushing the route onto regional roads, B-roads, and secondary routes. These are the twisty, less-trafficked roads motorcyclists prefer. The route will be longer in distance and time than the motorway option.

Is this a free motorcycle route planner?

Yes โ€” completely free, no account needed. Road data comes from OSRM/OpenStreetMap (open source). There are no premium features or sign-up walls.

How are fuel stops calculated?

Total route distance รท tank range, rounded up, minus 1 (since you start with a full tank). A 700 km route with a 250 km tank range needs 2 fuel stops, approximately every 233 km.

How many km per day does the motorbike journey planner assume?

Scenic mode assumes 300 km/day for comfortable back-road riding with stops and sightseeing. Fast mode assumes 500 km/day for motorway-based touring. Adjust to your pace โ€” experienced tourers often do more; first-time long-distance riders less.

Can I use this for motorcycle trips outside Europe?

Yes โ€” OSRM uses global OpenStreetMap data. Scenic mode (motorway exclusion) works wherever OpenStreetMap has motorway tags, which includes most of North America, Australia, and Asia. Road quality and coverage vary by region.
