This is the first post in a new hotel review series on Chasing Whereabouts, and I wanted to start with a stay that was short but actually useful to write about.
I stayed at Belstay Milano Linate for one night before flying back to Frankfurt. It was not a long luxury stay. It was the kind of airport-hotel night most of us book when the trip is almost over, the bags are packed badly, and the only real question is: "Will this make my early flight easier?"
The answer is: mostly yes, with one important transport caveat.

Quick Verdict: Is Belstay Milano Linate Worth It?
Yes, Belstay Milano Linate is worth considering if you need a practical hotel near Milan Linate Airport, especially if you arrive during the free shuttle window or your flight is late enough in the morning to use the shuttle.
It is not a hotel I would choose for exploring central Milan. It sits in Peschiera Borromeo, close to Linate Airport, and the value is in convenience rather than atmosphere. But for a one-night airport stay, it did the job well: comfortable room, good Wi-Fi, kettle in the room, food delivery available, helpful reception, and a breakfast box option for early checkout.
The only thing I would plan better next time is the early morning airport transfer. My taxi to Linate at 5:00 AM cost โฌ35, which was more than expected for such a short ride.

Chasing Whereabouts Hotel Review Scorecard
For this new hotel review series, I am going to score hotels on the things that actually affect a trip: location, sleep, room practicality, transport, food, family usefulness, internet, and price transparency.
| Review Parameter | My Score | Notes from this stay |
|---|---|---|
| Airport convenience | 4/5 | Very useful for Linate, but the shuttle does not cover very early departures. |
| Room comfort | 4/5 | Comfortable for one night, practical layout, kettle and coffee included. |
| Sleep quality | 4/5 | Quiet enough for an airport-hotel night, though I only stayed briefly. |
| Transport clarity | 3/5 | Free evening shuttle worked; 5:00 AM taxi cost more than expected. |
| Family practicality | 4/5 | Worked fine with a small child, and under-12 city tax exemption helped. |
| Food and drink | 4/5 | Food delivery was easy; hotel drinks were available but not cheap. |
| Wi-Fi and work setup | 4/5 | Wi-Fi was strong, desk was usable, but TV streaming did not work for me. |
| Value transparency | 3.5/5 | Good overall, but city tax and early taxi cost should be planned in advance. |
| Overall score | 4/5 | A solid airport hotel if your shuttle timing works. |
Why I Booked Belstay Milano Linate
This stay came at the end of my Italy trip. I had spent the day in Bergamo, came back toward Milan, and needed a simple place to sleep before my flight back to Frankfurt.
Belstay looked like the right airport-hotel choice because:
- It is close to Milan Linate Airport.
- It has an airport shuttle.
- It had enough facilities for a comfortable overnight stay.
- It was easier than staying in central Milan and worrying about the early morning transfer.
For airport hotels, I do not need charm. I need clean, calm, connected, and predictable. Belstay mostly delivered on that.
Getting to Belstay Milano Linate from Bergamo
My route was:

Bergamo -> Milano Lambrate -> Milano Forlanini -> Linate area -> Belstay shuttle
I came back from Bergamo by train to Milano Lambrate. From there, Google Maps was suggesting the S9, but that advice was not ideal on the Sunday I travelled. The S9 was running every 30 minutes, while the R38 was more frequent, so R38 was the better option for me.
This is one of those small public-transport details that matters when you are tired and carrying luggage. Google Maps is useful, but in Milan I would still check the live train board or Trenitalia/ATM information before blindly following the first route suggestion.
After reaching Milano Forlanini, I connected toward the airport area and then used the hotel shuttle.
Belstay Milano Linate Shuttle: The Most Important Detail
The shuttle is the biggest reason to book Belstay, but the timing matters.

Belstay's official services page says the shuttle to and from Milan Linate Airport runs from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM. It is free for hotel guests every 30 minutes during two windows: 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Outside those free windows, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM, it is available on request for โฌ5 per person, with a โฌ10 minimum per ride. You can confirm the latest timing on the official Belstay Milano Linate services page.
We reached around 7:30 PM, so the transfer to the hotel was free. That part worked nicely.
The issue was the next morning. Our flight was early, and we had to leave the hotel around 5:00 AM. The free shuttle had not started yet, so we had to take a taxi.
Taxi to Linate Airport at 5:00 AM
Before sleeping, we asked reception how much a taxi to the airport would cost. The estimate was around โฌ20-22.
In reality, the taxi cost us โฌ35.

The taxi driver mentioned a charge related to two and four passengers, which I did not love because it made the ride feel less predictable than it should have been. The reception did arrange the taxi for us, so the process was easy, but the price was higher than I expected.
My honest recommendation: if you need to leave before the free shuttle starts, compare your options before asking reception to call a taxi. I think using FREENOW or another taxi app could have saved some money, or at least made the fare clearer before the ride.
So, Belstay is convenient for Linate, but do not assume "airport hotel" automatically means cheap early-morning transfer.
Check-In and Reception Experience
Reception was helpful, especially with two things:
- Explaining the early checkout situation.
- Arranging the taxi for 5:00 AM.
They also offered to prepare a quick breakfast box because we were leaving before breakfast. This was a nice touch and exactly the kind of small practical thing that makes an airport hotel better.
We had booked breakfast, or at least I thought we had, and when I asked about leaving early they said they could keep a breakfast box at reception. If you have an early flight, ask about this during check-in instead of leaving it until the morning.
City Tax at Belstay Milano Linate
We paid โฌ5 city tax for one night during check-in. Our small daughter did not have to pay because the rule explained to us was that children under 12 years old were exempt.
There was also a quick city-tax form to fill out at reception. We did it during check-in and paid the tax immediately because I prefer not to leave small admin things for checkout morning, especially when the alarm is already set for airport time.
This is a small cost, but it is worth remembering when comparing hotel prices. The rate you see online and the final amount you pay at the property can differ because local taxes are often collected separately.
Room 109: What the Room Was Like
We stayed in room 109.
Overall, the room was good for a one-night airport stay. It had carpet flooring, the essential furniture, a kettle, and two coffees. I always appreciate a kettle in an airport hotel because sometimes you do not want to go down again just to get something warm.

The room was comfortable enough, but there was one issue: the locker was not functional in our room. For one night this was not a major problem for us, but it is worth checking if you are carrying valuables or staying longer.
The room felt more practical than stylish. That is not a complaint. For this kind of stay, I care more about sleep, Wi-Fi, shower, and airport access than interior design.

Bathroom
The bathroom was clean and functional, with a shower cabin, bidet, toilet, towels, and a blue sink that gave the room a slightly older-but-maintained feel.
It was not a spa-style bathroom, but for an airport hotel night it was completely fine. The main thing I look for here is cleanliness and whether everything feels easy to use when you are tired. On that front, it did the job.

Wi-Fi and TV
The Wi-Fi speed was good and the connection worked properly. That was one of the positives of the stay.
The TV was less useful if you want streaming. I tried to use Netflix, but I could not set it up because the TV connects through the Belstay Wi-Fi, which has an authentication step. Normal TV channels worked, but Netflix did not work for me.
If watching Netflix or YouTube on the hotel TV is important to you, bring your own device and watch on your phone, tablet, or laptop.
Food Delivery and Late-Night Drinks
You are not stuck with only the hotel restaurant. Food delivery worked well from Milan, and there were plenty of options available on delivery apps.
We ordered Indian food from Saravanaa Bhavan because that was what we wanted after the travel day. KFC and other familiar options were also visible on apps like Deliveroo, Lieferando, Uber Eats, and Glovo.
Inside the hotel, drinks were available too. A cold drink can cost around โฌ3.50, and a latte macchiato in the restaurant area at night was also around โฌ3.50.
For an airport hotel, this was fine. Not cheap, but not shocking either.
Breakfast Box for Early Checkout
This was one of the better parts of the stay.
Because we were checking out before the normal breakfast timing, reception offered to prepare a breakfast box and keep it ready for us. If you are booking breakfast but leaving early, this is worth asking for.
My suggestion: confirm it the evening before and ask what time it will be ready at reception. Early airport mornings already have enough moving parts. You do not want to be negotiating breakfast while the taxi is waiting.
Pool and Facilities
Belstay has a free swimming pool, which is a nice bonus for an airport hotel. I was not there long enough to use it properly, but it is something that makes the property feel more relaxed than a basic transit hotel.
The official hotel page says the outdoor pool is seasonal, open from 1 June to 30 September, and available to guests with towels included. So if you are staying in summer and arriving earlier in the day, pack swimwear in an easy-to-reach part of your bag.
There is also a gym and restaurant/bar area, which helps if you arrive before your room is ready or want to avoid going back into Milan.
Things to Do Around Belstay Milano Linate
I would not book Belstay as a sightseeing hotel, but if you arrive early or have an evening to fill, there are a few realistic options nearby.
Idroscalo
The best nearby option is Idroscalo, the large park and lake area close to Linate Airport. The official Idroscalo site describes it as being east of Milan beside Linate, between Segrate and Peschiera Borromeo, and lists the park as open daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. It is the place I would pick if you want a walk, fresh air, or something family-friendly before or after a flight. Check the latest details on the official Idroscalo information page.
Europark Idroscalo
If you are travelling with children or want something more active, Europark Idroscalo Milano is another nearby option around the Idroscalo area. It is more of an amusement-park choice than a quiet walk, so I would only plan it if you have enough time and energy.
Central Milan by M4
If you have more time, Milan is not impossible from the Linate side. ATM's M4 information page describes the M4 metro line as connecting Linate Airport with San Cristoforo, with San Babila as the interchange for the red M1 line. You can use the airport as the transport anchor, then take M4 into the city. Check timings on the official ATM M4 page.
My practical take: if you only have a short overnight stay like I did, do not over-plan. Eat, shower, sleep, and make the flight. If you have half a day, Idroscalo is the easiest nearby add-on.
What I Liked
- The location works well for Milan Linate Airport.
- The evening free shuttle was useful.
- Reception was helpful with taxi and breakfast box.
- Wi-Fi was fast and reliable.
- Kettle and coffee in the room were appreciated.
- Food delivery options were easy to find.
- The pool is a nice extra in summer.
- Under-12 city tax exemption helped with family travel costs.
What I Did Not Like
- The early morning taxi cost more than expected.
- Free shuttle does not help if you need to leave before 6:30 AM.
- The locker in room 109 was not working.
- Netflix did not work on the TV because of the Wi-Fi authentication.
- City tax paperwork was quick, but still another small check-in step.
- It is not a great base for sightseeing in Milan.
Who Should Book Belstay Milano Linate?
Belstay Milano Linate makes sense if:
- You have a flight from Milan Linate.
- You arrive during the free evening shuttle window.
- Your morning flight is late enough to use the shuttle from 6:30 AM onward.
- You want a comfortable one-night airport hotel.
- You are travelling as a small family and want a simple airport stay.
- You do not need to be in central Milan at night.
I would be more careful if:
- Your flight requires leaving before 6:30 AM.
- You are trying to minimise transfer costs.
- You want to walk around Milan in the evening.
- You are expecting a boutique hotel experience.
- You dislike paying local taxes separately at check-in.
My Final Rating
I would rate my stay 4 out of 5.
The room was good, Wi-Fi worked, reception helped, food delivery was easy, and the evening shuttle saved effort after a long day. For a one-night airport stay before flying from Linate, that is already a strong result.
The missing point is mainly for the early morning transfer. If the free shuttle had started earlier, or if the taxi fare had matched the estimate more closely, this would have felt like a very smooth airport-hotel experience.

How much did my taxi from Belstay Milano Linate to Linate Airport cost?
