When Is The Best Time To Visit Tallinn?
Tallinn is an enchanting city, and the best time to visit is in the summer months. During the summer, the city has some of the best weather in Europe, and there are no big crowds of tourists. It’s also a lot cooler so you can enjoy the Estonian Open-Air Museum in the shade!I think there’s only one answer to this question, and it’s not until the summertime.
Estonia is located right in the middle of the Arctic Circle, which means the weather is mild and pleasant year-round. It’s the perfect temperature, and you won’t have to worry about the rain. I really recommend taking a walking tour and seeing the city, as they will show you a lot of the history and architecture.
But then if you are a traveller like me then you may plan your trip during winter as well, I was able to see the first snowfall of that years winter in Tallin and the temperature was around 2 degree celcius when I visited. Tallinn’s Old Town
The capital of Estonia, Tallinn is a must-see for anyone who has an interest in Scandinavian history, architecture, or simply wants to experience an old-world European city. Although it is the smallest capital city in the Nordic region, Tallinn is a bustling metropolis, with a beautiful medieval centre and plenty of modern attractions.
The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the main focus of the city, and is home to several churches, including the largest wooden evangelical church in Northern Europe. The Town Hall, built in the early 13th century, is one of the best examples of medieval civil architecture in the country, and the largest building in the Old Town.
Lennusadam Seaplane Harbour
Lennusadam Seaplane Harbour is the gateway to the city and is the main port. The harbour is the site of a number of museums, including the Estonian Aviation Museum which houses an impressive collection of historic aircraft. The museum is open for tours and is a great way to learn about the history of aviation in Estonia.
Tallinn TV Tower

The crypt is also a good place to visit, as it has some of the most impressive frescoes depicting the life of Alexander Nevsky.

Kalev Chocolate Shop and Workshop: Kalev Street is one of the city’s oldest streets and the best place to get traditional Estonian food and pastries. Start at the Kalev Chocolate Shop and Workshop, which is an old chocolate factory that’s been converted into a chocolate shop.
You can watch the master chocolate maker create delicious chocolate treats, or you can also try your hand at making chocolate yourself. The workshop portion of the shop offers a great opportunity to learn about chocolate making, and you can also buy chocolate making supplies and ingredients to take home with you
Check Out Jagala Waterfall
You’ll need at least half a day in Tallinn to see everything, so make sure you venture outside of the city a bit too. Make your way to the Jagala waterfall, which is about a 40-minute drive from the city.
The waterfall is a popular spot for locals to cool off in the summer, and is a great place to stop and have some lunch. If you have time, you can also check out the water wheel and go fishing, which is also a popular activity here.

Visit the St Catherine’s Passage, an old city-centre passageway in the centre of town. It’s a narrow lane with no cars and a few shops and cafés. It’s also lined with statues of different saints, so it’s a great place to just walk around and try to understand why people were so religious in centuries past.

The town hall of Tallinn is a beautiful Baroque building with a stone facade, and a copper-domed roof. The interior of the building is amazing, with an intricate gold-leaf ceiling and a huge statue of a seated Lenin in the atrium. The best part is the view from the top of the building, which overlooks the entire city. It’s a great spot to take some photos, and it’s the best place in the city to take in the view.
Viru Gate
Walk through the Viru Gates, a series of stone archways from the 13th century that lead down to the city center from the castle, then walk through the old city center to the fortress. The fortress is the most iconic building in Tallinn, a massive square structure with a thick layer of wall that was built to protect the city from the Russians. The views from the top are incredible, and the fortress is also worth visiting if you’re into history and architecture
St. Olaf’s Church
Afterward, walk back up to the Viru Gates, and then walk through them and continue on to the St. Olaf’s Church. The church was built in medieval times, but it was reconstructed in a gothic style in the 18th century. It’s the city’s landmark, and the interior is beautiful, so make sure you go inside and take in the atmosphere. You can also take a free walking tour of the church, but if you have time to kill, you can also climb the tower for a great view of the entire city.

Take the day tour Coastal Cliffs and Rummu Submerged Quarry
Head back to the coast and take a walk along the rocks, stopping to check out the sea caves and tide pools. If you have more time, consider doing a day tour to the Rummu Suberged Quarry, which is an abandoned quarry that was turned into a nature preserve.
The tour takes you to the top of the cliff, where you can look down at the quarry and see the rock formations, and then you get to go inside the cave and see the sea life. It’s a really fun tour with a lot of great facts about the area, and the best part is that it’s included in the price of your ticket to Tallinn.
Take the Sunset Dinner Cruise
If you have more time, you can also do a dinner cruise along the river. The sunset dinner cruise is the most fun way to see the city, as you travel along the river between the old and new city, watching the lights come on and the sun go down.
You also get to stop at various lookout points, which is great if you have a camera. The dinner cruise lasts around 2.5 hours, and the food is included, which is a good way to get in your required eating for the day.
