One Week in Scandinavia and Baltic Itinerary

If you are looking to travel to Scandinavia and Baltic countries for your One Week in Scandinavia and Baltic is one Ultimate Europe Itinerary to follow and cover 6 Countries in roughly Eight Days. This was one of our best Scandinavia Trip.

This Itinerary is pretty jam-packed with things so if you feel like saving some effort and relax you can feel free to remove the countries and extend the stay in one of the city which you want to enjoy the most.

Also since I am planning my visit from Germany and I have this thing in mind that I will be visiting these countries again in future at this point of time I just one to spend exploring the top attractions in Scandinavia and Baltic first and save couple of things which requires more time to cover for future trips.

Which all countries are there in Scandinivia

Scandinavia, or the Nordic countries is a region in Northern Europe on the Scandinavian Peninsula. It consists of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

Scandinavian countries are among the happiest in the world. They have a very high living standard with one of the highest GDP per capita rates in the world.

The main language spoken is Swedish and Danish, and Norwegian is also widely spoken as a second language. The three Scandinavian countries cooperate closely under what is called The Nordic Council.

The Baltic countries are located in the eastern coast of Northern Europe and are bordered by Finland to the north, the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Bothnia to the west, Russia to the east, and Belarus and Poland to the south.

There are three countries in Baltic: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.

Day Wise Plan for One Week

During the planning phase I was going to cover only till Riga and then come back to Frankfurt, Germany but then the cost of flight from Riga, Latvia to Frankfurt, Germany was more than taking a detour to Oslo, Norway exploring Oslo and then taking a flight from Oslo, Norway to Frankfurt, Germany.

So I thought why not make this already adventurous journey into a more exciting stuff.

Now let us talk about some general things which comes into mind when we plan or think about a trip to Scandinavia.

Is scandinavia expensive to visit?

The short answer is yes. Scandinavia is a notoriously expensive place to visit.

But there is hope, and the secret sauce for making Scandinavia affordable is to plan ahead. There are three things you should do before visiting Scandinavia that will make it much cheaper: invest in a good guidebook, do your research about what’s worth buying and where, and set a financial budget.

So honestly I didn’t booked the costliest hotels in the city but was trying to book the best hotels/hostels which are Affordabale as well as good.

How Much Does a Trip to Scandinavia Cost?

The average cost of one day in Scandinavia is $150.

A trip to Scandinavia can be expensive, but the cost varies depending on where you are going and what you plan to do. For example, if you are only doing a day trip from Stockholm to Copenhagen or Oslo, the costs will be much lower than if you stay for an entire week. One way to get cheaper flights is to buy in advance. You could also look into public transportation as they are usually cheaper than renting a car or paying for individual taxis.

But then the choice is completely yours.

Spending time and money in Scandinavia is worth it

The cost of living is very affordable in Scandinavia. You can find a place to stay for less than $30 per night and eat out for less than $10. There are also no currency exchange fees, since the Scandinavian countries have their own currency.

To experience the natural beauty of Scandinavia, it’s best to visit during the summer months (June-August). This will give you ample opportunity to hike, camp, or just enjoy the sun on your face as you explore cities. Winter should be avoided, unless you’re looking for an interesting new challenge!

If you want to travel to Scandinavia, it is incredibly important that you are cheap. The best way to do this is by not eating out, staying in hostels and cooking at home. You can also save a lot of money by buying your food from the supermarket instead of restaurants or street stalls.

Arrival & Getting Around From The Airports

If you are travelling from Germany to this Scandinavia then eventually you will end up following this itinerary because the flights cost of reaching to Copenhagen is the cheapest from Frankfurt via flights.

Arrival and Getting Around From the Airport in Copenhagen,Denmark

We’ll walk you through the quickest and easiest way to get into the city center of Copenhagen from the airport. We’ll tell you where to catch public transport, how to navigate it, and what time you should aim for.

-Copenhagen Airport is located in Kastrup, which is just south of Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital city.

-The airport has trains that will take passengers into central Copenhagen in about 25 minutes.

-The quickest way to get from Kastrup Station to downtown Copenhagen is by taking train S-tog A towards Hellerup and then changing onto train S-tog F towards Østerport Station.

-However, if you are travelling with luggage then it would be best for your first stop from Kastrup Station

Arrival and Getting Around From the Airport in Stockholm, Sweden

Arlanda Airport is only 20 minutes from Stockholm and the transportation options are plentiful.

The best way to go into the city is to take public transportation, which is speedy and easy. Bus lines connect Arlanda with central Stockholm as well as many other suburbs of the region.

Arlanda Express, which runs to Stockholm’s Central Station in just 20 minutes, is also a good option for travelers who want to get into the city quickly. Another option is to take a taxi or Uber, which will take about 30 minutes for most people. Normally uber is going to cost you around 56 Euro to reach the city center from Arlanda Airport.

Flygbussarna Airport Coaches depart every 10–15 minutes between Arlanda Airport and the City Terminal (located next to the Central Station). Travel time from Arlanda: 35–45 minutes. Buses also run to Liljeholmen via Karolinska, Fridhemsplan, and Södermalm (50 min) and to Brommaplan via Kista and Sundbyberg. (54 min). All buses offer free wifi.

Commuter trains (operated by the public transport company in Stockholm, SL) to Stockholm depart twice an hour from Arlanda Central Station in Sky City. Total travel time between the airport and Stockholm Central Station is 43 minutes.

Arrival and Getting Around From the Airport in Helsinki, Finland

Helsinki Airport is well-connected with the rest of Finland by bus, train, and ferry.

There are buses and trains that take passengers to Helsinki Central Railway Station in the heart of the city. There are also buses to go on various tours of Helsinki or other parts of Finland.

Ferries depart for Turku, Stockholm, Tallinn and Mariehamn from Helsinki’s harbor. The ferries have connections to Estonia and Sweden. The ferries that depart for Estonia stop at Tallinn, while those going to Sweden stop at Mariehamn.

The journey from Helsinki airport into the city centre takes around 30 minutes. The train station is down the escalator, between terminals 1 and 2 – just follow the railway signs.

To get to Helsinki Central Railway Station, which is in the heart of the city centre, you can take the I or P train. It’s a loop train, so it makes no difference which line you choose. Just hop on whichever is at the terminal when you arrive.

You must buy your ticket before you get onto the train from the machine at the station, or you can use the HSL app, which is slightly cheaper.

You’ll need to buy an ABC ticket, as the airport is in travel zone C. A single ticket costs around €4.10 on the app, or €4.60 for a ticket bought elsewhere. A day or multi-day pass only includes airport travel if you buy the ABC pass, so it’s unlikely to be cost-effective unless you’re travelling a lot outside the city.

Public bus #615 leaves from outside both terminals and will also take you to Helsinki Central Railway Station. It takes about 45 minutes and costs the same as the train (around €4.60).

Arrival and Getting Around from the Airport in Tallin, Estonia

Tallinn is a city that has been called the “new Nordic capital”. It is one of the most technologically advanced cities in all of Europe, and it hosts many startups.

Tallinn’s airport is called Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport, and it has flights coming from around the world to Tallinn every day. You can get to downtown Tallinn by taking public transport or by taxi. There are also bus stops close to the airport, which you can use if you have an Estonian public transportation card.

Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport is very conveniently located – just 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) from the city centre. You can easily travel to and from the airport by tram, bus, or taxi. 

By tram 

Tram no. 4 takes you directly from the airport to the city centre in approximately 20-25 minutes. It runs daily from 5:30 a.m. until 00:45 a.m. (including weekends and public holidays, see schedule). 
The tram stop (stop Lennujaam) is located right next to the terminal – just follow the signs. Tickets can be bought with a contactless payment card on board (1.50€) or the ticket machine at the airport (1.50€). Depending on your destination, the closest stops to the city centre are Hobujaama, Viru, and Vabaduse väljak.

By bus

Bus no. 2 connects the airport to the city centre and the port (D and A terminals). It runs working days approximately 6:00 a.m. until 00:00 a.m. On weekends and public holidays approximately 6:00 a.m. until 23:00 p.m., see schedule). 
The bus departs from the airport’s lowest level (stop Lennujaam), down the escalator from the arrivals hall – simply follow the signs. Tickets can be bought with a contactless payment card on board (1.50€) or the ticket machine at the airport (1.50€). The closest stop to the city centre is A. Laikmaa, and the ride from the airport takes around 20-25 minutes. 

By taxi

The taxi stand is located outside, in front of the arrivals hall. The fare from the airport to the city centre costs around 10€. Read more about the taxi services in Tallinn in our corresponding transport section.

Arrival and Getting Around from the Airport in Riga, Latvia

If you plan on arriving in Riga, Latvia, you will need to know about the different ways to get around from the airport. There are a variety of ways to get into the city and many options for transportation.

The airport is located about 10km outside of Riga. To get there from downtown, you can take a taxi which will take 20-30 minutes and cost around €10-€15 depending on traffic. The bus takes 30 minutes and costs €1.2 per ticket, but it is often crowded and uncomfortable The timetable of bus No. 22 is available here: www.rigassatiksme.lv.

You can also take an Airport Shuttle which takes 22 minutes for €8 per person or a taxi shuttle which takes 10 minutes for €5 per person.

Arrival and Getting Around from the Airport in Oslo, Norway

Norway’s capital is a beautiful city that is situated by the Oslofjord. It has many attractions and shopping malls for visitors to explore.

Here are some tips on how you can get around from the Oslo airport:

1) There are many Norwegian Airlines that fly into Oslo, such as Scandinavian Airlines, Wideroe, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Ryanair. All of these airlines provide shuttle buses or trains to Oslo Central Station.

2) If you want to take an Uber, it costs around $55-$65. Taxi fares are slightly higher at about $70-$90

3) You can take the Airport Express train to get into downtown Oslo in about 20 minutes for around $25- $35 each way

In my case since I took the Budget Airlines from Riga, Latvia to Oslo, Norway it is landing at Oslo Airport Sandefjord from here you have to take the free shuttle to Torp Station and then take Vestfold line to reach the city center. More info can be found here
